Wildfire Response Technician

Working for Delta Wildfire, you will be part of a specialized response team who supports Wildfire Management (structure protection crews) with the use of 4-inch hose lay systems in urban interface situations across Western Canada. Working in an organized and defined command structure, you will provide knowledge and experience in deploying 4” inch mainline hose to support all aspects of Structure Protection. This will include fire engine speed loading sites, perimeter and interface sprinkler setups, and the setup of structure protection sprinklers.
This is a seasonal, 6-month position, Monday to Friday with overtime and weekend work during the fire response season.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and overall support during response deployments for Wildfire Structure Protection, Heli-dip Tank operations, and flooding.
  • Work cooperatively with others in a team environment under adverse conditions such as smoke, extreme heat, mountainous terrain for extended periods of time.
  • Ensure accurate and detailed daily notes and field tickets are completed and submitted to head office daily.
  • Ensure daily safety briefings are documented utilizing our Site Docs Field App.
  • Ensure all response equipment is maintained to the highest standards and ready for response 24/7.
  • Maintain a high degree of personal safety.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained to its manufactured standards.
  • Ensure all equipment repairs are documented and stored in office location Kamloops and readily available for review.
  • Utilize equipment checklist to determine equipment is in safe working conditions.
  • Report all unsafe equipment to the Wildfire Co-Ordinator.
  • Be able to lift 75 pounds.
  • Be able to work in high stress and arduous conditions for extended periods (heat, rain)

Qualifications
  • 19 years old minimum.
  • Clean abstract Class 5 drivers license or higher with ability to get a heavy trailer endorsement.
  • 2 to 5 years of Wildland Fire experience is preferred (Willing to train the right individual with less experience).
  • Excellent physical shape and be able to pass BCWS fitness standards for contractors.
  • OFA Level 1 Ticket Preferred.
  • S-100 Basic Wildfire Suppression (Additional training will be provided)
  • S-185 Fire Entrapment (Additional training will be provided)
  • S-212 Fire Line Communications
  • ICS 100 Incident Command System 100
  • Some mechanical background is an asset.
  • Experience in forklift operation is an asset.

Additional Assets
  • Volunteer Fire Dept experience
  • Forestry work experience
  • Other resource-based work experience such as oil and gas, mining, or farming

Location/Wages/Term
  • Kamloops BC
  • Wages $24.00-$30.00 per hour based on experience.
  • April 1st to Sept 30th, 2024, potential for extension based on fire workload
